When Dick Cheney claimed he was not part of the executive branch of our government. I had some of my DAH’s “Dumb A** Hillbilly” friends look into this and here is the just of their report:

• Cheney is in fact part of the executive branch of government.

• When Cheney denied being part of the executive branch, he denied being Vice President and in effect resigned as Vice President of the United States of America!!!!!

• The report also mentioned that they the DHA’s were very happy that Dick Cheney was working in Washington D.C. and not at the McDonalds where they regularly meet, because if Cheney worked there they would never get anything to eat.

• They were also very understanding as to why someone would deny being part of the same branch of government as George W. Bush.

I have to admit the DAH’s cut through all of the Bullsh** and got right to the point. Reckon we need some DAH’s in Washington, D.C. to get this country back on track?

The Southern Baptist Convention's public policy chief says that if John Kerry had defeated President Bush in 2004, Hillary Clinton would now be the Supreme Court's chief justice and another liberal would have replaced Sandra Day O'Connor.
The Reverend Richard Land told Baptists at their annual meeting, "We would have been stuck with a six-to-three pro-abortion majority on the Supreme Court. Thank God we voted our values."

Southern Baptists approved a resolution on global warming Wednesday that questions the prevailing scientific belief that humans are largely to blame for the phenomenon and also warns that increased regulation of greenhouse gases will hurt the poor.

“I appreciate the fact that Southern Baptists understand the importance of fair-minded and impartial judges to our democracy. (Applause.) I was proud to nominate John Roberts and Sam Alito to the Supreme Court. (Applause.) And I will continue to nominate good judges who will interpret the law and not legislate from the bench.” (Applause.)

This is the same Southern Baptist Convention that voted June 20th, 1995 to adopt a resolution renouncing its racist roots and apologizing for its past defense of slavery. The racism resolution marked the denomination's first formal acknowledgment that racism played a role in its founding and that was just 12 years ago.

During its June 1998 convention the SBC amended the Baptist Faith and Message for the first time since 1963. Among the changes were two highly significant alterations concerning the position of women in ministry and in marriage.
The role of pastor is reserved for men and therefore ordination of women should not be allowed.
Article VI, The Church. While both men and women are gifted for service in the church, the office of pastor is limited to men as qualified by Scripture.
The family is now termed "his" (the husband's) family. The wife must "submit herself graciously" to the husband's leadership, and must "respect her husband and…serve as his helper…."

Bush's "Strongest Supporter" in the Senate Collects on his Debt 
Paying the tab for seven years of loyal support, President Bush will raise millions of dollars tonight for the political committee charged with re-electing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and other Senate Republicans.
“Mitch McConnell brags about being George Bush’s most loyal supporter in the Senate, and tonight he’ll collect on his debt,” DSCC spokesman Matthew Miller said.  “Mitch McConnell carries Bush’s water in the Senate by day, and then uses the president to rake in campaign cash by night.   
“Country star Trace Adkins will headline tonight’s fundraiser, and when he takes the stage to croon such lyrics as ‘I can't swear that I'll be here for the rest of your life, but I swear I'll love you for the rest of mine,’ I can’t help but wonder if Mitch McConnell will join him in a duet to the president,” Miller said.
President Is Set To Host An Event for Senate GOP Candidates Tonight. Tonight in Washington, President Bush will headline the President’s Dinner, an annual joint fundraising event benefiting the National Republican Senatorial Committee and the National Congressional Campaign Committee. McConnell Votes With Bush 96% of the Time. Over the last six years, McConnell has voted with the President an average of 96% of the time. During Bush’s first term, McConnell backed him a whopping 98% of the time. [CQ Member Profile]
McConnell Called Bush “One of the Great Presidents” In U.S. History. Just last year, McConnell called Bush “one of the great presidents in the history of the United States.” [Washington Post, 3/12/06]
McConnell Called Himself Bush’s “Strongest Supporter” On Iraq. In a January interview discussing Iraq and the President’s proposed troop escalation, McConnell described himself as “the strongest supporter of the president you could find in the Senate on this effort.” [CBS, “Face the Nation,” 1/28/07]
Bush Already Raised Over $1 Million for McConnell’s ’08 Re-Election Bid. At a Louisville event on March 2, 2007, Bush raised $2.1 million for Senator Mitch McConnell and the NRSC, making it the largest fundraiser in state history. Of the total raised, it was expected that 75% would go to McConnell. [Washington Post, 3/3/07; Courier-Journal, 3/3/07]
Courier Journal: McConnell Puts “Cash Over Conscience.” The Courier Journal editorialized that Mitch McConnell is ignoring his constituents by bringing in George Bush to raise cash for him, saying, “Does it matter how his constituents feel about his partner in solicitation? Apparently not.” They added, “Apparently Sen. McConnell is so confident the largesse he brings back to Kentucky will prove more important to voters than his unwavering loyalty to Mr. Bush's disastrous policies that he sees no risk in raking in the cash while joined at the hip with the man responsible for stubbornly leading the country into ever-more-polarized politics, unsustainable debt, regulatory collapse, energy folly, environmental calamity and, of course, deepening international crisis and loss of international standing.” [Courier Journal, 3/2/07]

POLL FINDS RURAL VOTERS DISENCHANTED WITH BUSH, WORRIED ABOUT WAR

Republicans have not made up ground they lost among rural voters in the 2006 election, according to a poll commissioned by the Center for Rural Strategies. The study indicates that negative views about the Bush administration, the war in Iraq, and the economy are eroding the Republican party's rural base.
But rural voters remain more conservative than the nation as a whole, creating an opportunity for Republicans to make up their losses, according to the poll of 804 rural likely voters conducted this month.
Among the findings of the Rural Strategies poll are:

• Rural voters deliver a narrow plurality to a generic Democratic candidate for President: 46 - 43 percent. In contrast, President Bush won the rural vote in 2004 by 19 points.

• Voters are not inspired by any candidate for president, including Fred Thompson, who draws a modest 22 percent favorable, 18 percent unfavorable score among the 52 percent who are familiar with him.

• At the Congressional level, voters prefer Democrats in named trial heats 46 - 44 percent.

• Iraq poses challenges for both parties. While a narrow majority opposes the war, nearly 60 percent are close to someone serving or who has served in the fighting. This is not a "television war" for rural families.

• President Bush's job approval numbers have dropped from 54 percent approve, 43 percent disapprove just prior to the 2004 election to 44 percent approve, 52 percent disapprove currently.

• Nonetheless, rural America remains a deeply conservative place (50 percent conservative in self-ascribed terms) and there is little evidence of shifting ideologies in this survey.

The rural vote is critical in presidential and congressional elections because large Republican majorities among rural voters have helped overcome Democratic advantages in urban areas. With the rural advantage eroding for the GOP, both parties may look more carefully at the rural vote in the coming elections.
"The rural vote determines presidential elections," said Dee Davis, president of the nonpartisan Center for Rural Strategies, which sponsors the poll. "Democrats don't win unless they make rural competitive, and Republicans don't win without a large rural victory. So you'd think that would mean the candidates would have a spirited debate on the things that matter to rural Americans, but we haven't heard it yet."
Republican poll adviser Bill Greener of Greener & Hook said the poll shows rural America is disenchanted with current leaders, not abandoning its preference for more conservative candidates.
"Rural voters clearly prefer GOP positions to Democratic ones," he said. "The problem is that at this point, there's just no one they trust to deliver on that promise."
Democratic pollster and poll adviser Anna Greenberg, vice president of the Democratic polling firm Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, said she sees opportunities for Democrats in the poll's findings.
"Democrats have a historic opportunity here," she said. "Rural America is as politically competitive as any region in the country right now. It is a battleground, but it's part of America that Republicans must win, and win decisively, if they are to compete a national level."

Vice President Dick Cheney's former chief of staff is headed to prison for 2½ years.
Federal Judge Reggie Walton also ordered Libby to pay $250,000 in fines. Additionally, the former aide will be on probation for two years following the completion of his prison term. Libby must report to a probation officer within 72 hours of sentencing, unless Walton allows Libby to go free on bond pending appeal of the case. Court is still in session while the judge considers the request. Libby did not speak to reporters as he left the federal courthouse in Washington, D.C.
Fitzgerald said it was "sad" that a "high level official in the vice president's office lied."
There has been speculation that President George W. Bush could pardon the former aide to the Vice President, but a White House spokesperson has called talked of a pardon "wildly hypothetical."

Opinion: Ernie Fletcher Owns The Kentucky Republican Party.

Ernie Fletcher winner of the Republican Gubernatorial Primary has taken control of the Kentucky Republican Party and Senator Mitch McConnell seems to be out in the cold. Some Republicans are searching for the right person to run against McConnell when he, McConnell, is up for re-election next year.
I can really understand that. It must be embarrassing to have a toothless Senator representing Kentucky Republicans.

The wife of Congressman Ron Lewis, Kayi Lewis, seems to be right in the middle of the McConnell and Fletcher fiasco.

Kayi Lewis, wife of Congressman Ron Lewis, and J. Marshall Hughes, an attorney from Bowling Green, have been tapped to lead the Fletcher/Rudolph Campaign’s efforts in the state’s 2nd Congressional District.
“Kayi and Marshall are a tremendous addition to our team,” said Gov. Fletcher. “Their leadership in the state’s 2nd district will be a key to our success and I look forward to working with them throughout this campaign.”

Rumor has it here in Hardin County that Congressman Ron Lewis is tired of running for office every 2 years and wants to be a Senator. Could it be that Congressman Ron Lewis has picked sides and will run against Mitch McConnell, in the primary next year or will Congressman Ron Lewis be satisfied to continue to kiss George W. Bush’s A**, ride around in a Mercedes while our troops are dying in Iraq, vote for bad trade agreements like CAFTA, mislead his constituents about term limits and vote against senior citizens on Medicare Part D??

In 2004, BBC reporter Greg Palast obtained two e-mails — prepared for the executive director of the Bush campaign in Florida and the campaign’s national research director — that listed “1,886 names and addresses of voters in predominantly black and traditionally Democrat areas” of the Jacksonville, FL Naval Air Station. Palast explains:
Here’s how the scheme worked: The RNC mailed these voters letters in envelopes marked, “Do not forward”, to be returned to the sender. These letters were mailed to servicemen and women, some stationed overseas, to their US home addresses. The letters then returned to the Bush-Cheney campaign as “undeliverable.”
The lists of soldiers of “undeliverable” letters were transmitted from state headquarters, in this case Florida, to the RNC in Washington. The party could then challenge the voters’ registration and thereby prevent their absentee ballots being counted.
Caging is a voter suppression tactic. Suppressing votes on the basis of race is not only illegal under the federal Voting Rights Act, but also unconstitutional.
