Steven Atcher has accepted an invitation to be an author here at Hillbilly Report. Steve is relentless in his pursuit for a better and more responsive government. Steve is the real deal and Hillbilly Report is very fortunate to have him as an author.
Steve is a native of Hardin County, Kentucky and resides in Elizabethtown, KY with his wife. Steve’s wife is also a native of Hardin County, Kentucky.
Steve has been married thirty-seven years and has been blessed with 2 children and three grandchildren.
Steve’s son, and his son’s wife and three grandchildren reside in Elizabethtown, Kentucky
Steve’s daughter, who is engaged, lives in Atlanta.
Steve is a 1967 graduate of Elizabethtown Catholic High School.
Steve Graduated, in 1971 from University of Kentucky, with a B.A. in English (Field of Concentration).
Steve is a former Business Owner and has worked in the private sector for thirty-eight years and counting.
Steve has served as President of the Radcliff, Kentucky Jaycees and as President of the Elizabethtown Community College Student Body.

PLEASE CALL:  Councilman Ron Thomas at 737-7090 and Councilman Kenny Lewis at 737-1839 IMMEDIATELY and ask them to VOTE NO ON THE RESTAURANT TAX.  Also, if at all possible, ATTEND THE MEETING WHEN THIS VOTE WILL BE TAKEN (4:30PM THIS COMING MONDAY).

YOU SHOULD ALSO FAX A LETTER OPPOSING THE TAX TO MAYOR DAVID WILLMOTH, JR. AND ALL CITY COUNCILMEN (RON THOMAS, TONY BISHOP, MARTY FULKERSON, KENNY LEWIS, WILLIE WOOD, AND TIM WALKER) TO CITY HALL AT 737-5362.  YOUR CALLS ARE MOST IMPORTANT, BUT FAXES WILL HELP TOO.

Your calls are important to councilmen, and these two councilmen are the key to whether the tax will pass or not.

The City Council will vote this coming Monday, April 23RD at a special City Council meeting scheduled for 4:30 PM on whether to enact a Restaurant Tax that will increase your restaurant charges at every city restaurant from now until eternity.  This tax will be passed on to your children, your grandchildren, and all generations of children to come.

If you oppose this attempt to take thousands of dollars out of each family's take-home pay over the next twenty-five years, and  tens of millions of dollars out of the local economy over that same time period, then PLEASE ACT NOW, if we are to have any chance to stop this tax from becoming law NEXT MONDAY!

Lucky Duck (Perky) Escapes 3 Near-Death Experiences

A ring-necked duck has garnered international fame after surviving at least three brushes with death.
Perky was shot by a hunter on Jan. 15, left for dead in a refrigerator, then, stopped breathing while a local veterinarian repaired her broken wing.
Perky now spends most of her time huddled in the corner of her cage on the heating pad.
After being shot, Perky spent the next two days in the hunter's refrigerator until his wife discovered that Perky was still alive. Read entire story.

Syndicated political columnist Molly Ivins died of breast cancer Wednesday evening at her home in Austin. Molly's enduring message is "Raise more hell."

    Syndicated political columnist Molly Ivins died of breast cancer Wednesday evening at her home in Austin. She was 62 years old, and had much, much more to give this world. She remained cheerful despite Texas politics. She emphasized the more hilarious aspects of both state and national government, and consequently never had to write fiction. She said, "Good thing we've still got politics - finest form of free entertainment ever invented."
    Although short, Molly's life was writ large. She was as eloquent a speaker and teacher as she was a writer, and her quips will last at least as long as Will Rogers'. She dubbed George W. Bush "Shrub" and Texas Governor Rick Perry "Good Hair."
    Molly always said in her official résumé that the two honors she valued the most were (1) when the Minneapolis Police Department named their mascot pig after her (she was covering the police beat at the time); and (2) when she was banned from speaking on the Texas A&M University campus at least once during her years as co-editor of The Texas Observer (1970-76). However, she said with great sincerity that she would be proudest of all to die sober, and she did. Read full story 

Former President Gerald Ford Dies

    Los Angeles - Gerald R. Ford, who picked up the pieces of Richard Nixon's scandal-shattered White House as the 38th and only unelected president in America's history, has died, his wife, Betty, said Tuesday. He was 93.
    "My family joins me in sharing the difficult news that Gerald Ford, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather has passed away at 93 years of age," Mrs. Ford said in a brief statement issued from her husband's office in Rancho Mirage. "His life was filled with love of God, his family and his country."

James Brown, the 'Godfather of Soul,' dies at 73

Pausing to fight back tears, Bobbit said he was at Brown's bedside when he died.
Brown told him, "I'm going away tonight."
Then he took three long, quiet breaths, and closed his eyes, Bobbit said.

All They Are Saying "Is Give Peace A Chance"

DENVER A homeowners association in the southwestern Colorado town of Pagosa Springs has told one of its residents to take down a Christmas wreath shaped as a peace sign, because it's "divisive."
The association's president says three or four residents have complained the wreath is an anti-Iraq war protest or a symbol of Satan. He says some of those complaining have children serving in Iraq.
The association has threatened Lisa Jensen with a fine of 25-dollars a day until she complies.
Jensen says she wasn't thinking about the war when she hung the wreath, calling it "a spiritual thing." She says she doesn't want to be bullied and won't take it down until after Christmas. Jensen says she doubts the association will be able to make her pay the fine.
