A group of Democrats met today (7/4/07) at the corner of 5th and Jefferson in front of the Veterans Memoral for a reading of the cannabis-inspired Declaration of Independence.

Congressman John Yarmuth was there to lead off the reading. State Senator Perry Clark and State Representative Tom Riner were there also.

It was thrilling to hear those universal ideals and values expressed.

Especially moving are those words: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal and endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Let the Democratic Party be recognized as the party of proud Americans who speak out for American values.

Enough of Republican talk of family values, traditional values or "Kentucky values" as Gov. Fletcher likes to call them. Those are nothing but code terms that are trash talk contrary to American values.
